Flight Training

Learning to fly involves the process of transferring decision making from the instructor to the new pilot. Along the way the new pilot develops the skills and acquires the knowledge to permit them to safely and effectively explore the adventure of flying.

I recommend that my flight students subscribe to Gold Seal Ground School. I use this service as the syllabus for flight training. It is an easily accessible resource to study and track the required material.

Gold Seal Ground School integrates studying for the Knowledge Exam and preparing for actual flight lessons. They use vivid in flight video, effective animations and engaging exercises. Subscribers may identify their flight instructor who will then be able to assign homework and review the clients quizzes and stage checks. They offer either a one year or lifetime subscription for both the Sport Pilot and Private Pilot certificates. Here is the link to the Gold Seal site.

One of the first skills the new pilot begins to develop is to evaluate whether they and their airplane are ready for today’s flight. The following checklists are used to aid in that evaluation.

The Pave checklist guides the pilot in evaluating current conditions and abilities.

The pilot preforms a preflight inspection of the airplane to determine that it is airworthy.

Checklists are used for each stage of a flight to ensure that no steps are missed.
